Object storage (S3)
S3-compatible object storage on Nordweb's own servers in Finland. You pay for the space you reserve.
- S3-compatible API (path-style). Works with rclone, Cyberduck, aws-cli and restic, for example.
- Data stays in Finland, on Nordweb's own servers.
- Your own access keys from My account: read and write, read only or write only.
- The storage quota is a hard limit, so there are no overage charges for space.
What object storage is for
Backup target
Send your own backups here with restic or rclone, for example. A write-only key stops the backup tool from reading or deleting old copies.
Files and media
Keep images, videos and other files off your web hosting disk. Your application talks to the S3 API just as it does with other services.
Application data
Logs, reports and archives from applications with built-in S3 support.
How to get started
- Choose the size and billing period, and pay for the order. The storage is created automatically after payment.
- Create an access key in My account. The secret key is shown only once, so save it right away. You can have up to five keys.
- Turn on path-style addressing in your S3 tool, for example in aws-cli:
aws configure set default.s3.addressing_style path
Frequently asked questions
- What happens when the storage is full?
- The quota is a hard limit: new files cannot be written until space is freed or you increase the size. There are no overage charges for space.
- Is the stored data backed up?
- No. Object storage does not include backups, so keep a copy of important data elsewhere too.
- Does data transfer cost extra?
- Downloads out are free up to the amount of storage you have ordered each month, and anything above that costs 10 €/TB. Uploads are free. See section 7.6 of the terms of service for details.
- What happens if I cancel the service?
- From the end date the data is read-only. After 14 days the access keys are removed, and after 30 days the data is deleted.
