Migrating a WordPress site to another server
Migrating a WordPress site to a new server can be done safely with the right instructions. We go through three different migration methods, the most common mistakes and how to make sure nothing gets lost.
We handle the migration of your site, your email and your domain with no downtime. Migration is free on all our hosting plans, and you can also do it yourself if you prefer.
The entire process is designed so you don't have to worry about a thing.
We migrate everything needed so your website works perfectly in its new home.
CMS installations, themes, plugins, the media library, HTML, CSS, JS and configuration files are all transferred as they are.
MySQL/MariaDB databases are migrated and tested. Connection settings are updated and a backup of the old database is preserved.
Email accounts, saved messages, folders and forwarding rules move to the new mailbox. We put the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in order once the nameservers are with us.
A, CNAME and MX records are updated and the TTL is optimized for a smooth switch.
We install a new SSL certificate for your site and make sure HTTPS works right after the switch.
PHP settings, redirects and scheduled tasks are reviewed and moved to the new environment in working order.
You do not need any technical skill. It is enough that you can reach your current service or get the credentials from its provider. We ask for these only when we contact you.
The control panel address and login, or FTP credentials meaning the server address, username and password. If SSH is available, that speeds the work up too.
Most of the time the database comes along with the control panel login. If it does not, we need a database dump or the database name, user and password.
Which publishing system you use, and whether the site has anything that does not copy by itself, such as scheduled tasks, payment integrations or custom PHP settings.
Your domain name and where it is registered. If you want the domain moved as well, we need the registrar transfer key. If it stays with your current registrar, we need access to its nameserver settings.
A list of the addresses to move and the old mail server address, which we can also find out for you. We never ask you for other people's passwords.
Tell us if the site must not be away at a particular time, for example during an online store campaign. We fit the switch around it.
Messages, folders and forwarding rules move as they are, and the mail is never out of service in between. The old mailbox stays untouched until you have confirmed everything works. We never ask you for other people's passwords.
We need a list of the addresses to move and the old server address. Each mailbox gets its own link, behind which the user enters their old password themselves.
Messages and folders are copied to the new mailbox while the old mail keeps working normally throughout.
We turn the MX records only once the mailboxes are ready, and we tell you what to update on your phone and in your mail client. You get the right server settings from the control panel.
If you are already our customer, you can start the email migration yourself. Open email migration
The domain does not move with the site automatically. It is a separate transfer of its own, and it is free with us too.
The transfer is free and happens immediately, because the transfer key works as the authorisation. There is no transfer lock and no separate confirmation email. The expiry date stays as it is. The key is valid for 30 days.
For extensions like .com, first unlock the transfer and turn off WHOIS privacy. The registry adds one year to the validity during the transfer, and that year is paid at checkout. The transfer is possible only once 60 days have passed since registration or since the previous transfer.
The transfer does not change the nameservers, so after it the domain points to exactly the same place as before and nothing breaks. We read the current DNS records and keep them when the transfer is requested, and the nameservers are switched separately only once the site is ready with us.
Your website's performance and visibility improve immediately after migration.
OpenLiteSpeed technology and NVMe SSD storage make your site many times faster than traditional hosting.
Fast loading times improve your Core Web Vitals scores, which directly affect your Google rankings.
Automatic SSL certificates, firewall, malware protection, and daily backups keep your website safe.
A faster website means a better user experience, lower bounce rates, and more enquiries.
Our support team helps you at every step. We typically respond within the same business day.
Software updates, compatibility checks, and technical monitoring are included in the service.
Fill in the form and we will contact you and handle the rest for you.
The migration also works by hand, and most people get through it in one evening. The whole path is below in order. If something stops you, get in touch and we will carry on from there.
