Connecting your mailbox to a mail app

Connecting your mailbox to a mail app

Nordweb email works in every common mail app. You need the server name, the port and the encryption method. Everything else is the same whichever app you use.

Which server is yours

If your domain has Nordweb hosting, email runs through the hosting and the server is mail.nordweb.fi. Otherwise it is a separate Nordweb Email service and the server is posti.nordweb.fi.

This is decided per domain, so the same customer can have different servers on different domains. Check your own in your account: open Email and then Mail client settings under your domain. You can copy the values straight from there.

Incoming mail, IMAP

Servermail.nordweb.fi or posti.nordweb.fi
Port993
EncryptionSSL/TLS
UsernameYour full email address, for example name@company.fi
PasswordYour mailbox password

Outgoing mail, SMTP

ServerThe same as for incoming mail
Port587 with STARTTLS. If that does not work, try port 465 with SSL/TLS.
AuthenticationYes, with the same username and password

The username is always the full email address, not just the part before the at sign. This is the most common reason sign-in fails.

Why IMAP

IMAP leaves messages on the server, so the same mail looks the same on your phone, your computer and in webmail. Always use it.

Outlook

  1. Open Outlook and choose File, then Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address and open Advanced options, where you can set up the account yourself.
  3. Choose IMAP and enter the settings above.
  4. Test the connection and save.

Outlook's automatic setup does not work for hosting email, so enter the settings by hand. For Nordweb Email the automatic setup works.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings, then Apps and Mail, and choose Mail Accounts.
  2. Choose Add Account and then Other.
  3. Choose Add Mail Account and enter your name, address and password.
  4. Choose IMAP and enter the server name for both incoming and outgoing mail.

Android

  1. Open your email app and choose to add an account.
  2. Choose Other or IMAP, not a ready-made provider.
  3. Enter your address and password and check that the ports are 993 and 587.

Gmail app (iPhone and Android)

You can read your Nordweb email in the same Gmail app as your Gmail mail. The mailbox is added to the app as an account of its own.

  1. Open the Gmail app and tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
  2. Choose Add another account and then Other.
  3. Enter the full email address of the mailbox, for example info@company.fi. If the app asks for the account type, choose IMAP.
  4. Enter the mailbox password. It is not your account password or your Google password.
  5. Enter your own server and the ports above for both incoming and outgoing mail. The username is the full email address in both.
  6. The mailbox shows up in Gmail as an account of its own. Switch between accounts by tapping your profile picture.

Gmail on a computer

Gmail in a web browser no longer fetches mail from other mailboxes. On a computer, read your Nordweb email in webmail or in a mail app such as Outlook. The webmail link is in the Email section of your account.

If the connection fails

  • Check that the username is the full email address.
  • Check that the server is the same for incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Check that encryption is on. Without it the connection is refused.
  • If receiving works but sending does not, try port 465 with SSL/TLS. Some networks block one of these ports.

The exact values for your own domain are always in the Email section of your account.
